The past several weeks have been extremely busy. I've been buried in preparing new materials for my courses this quarter. Plus, I have been working closely with Ashok as he has revised and brought his "GXl" tool online. I have been experiencing that age old problem "lack of time."
Several of my Intermediate Accounting students are using the Groove workspace as a way to study together. I have added Ashok's "GXl" tool to their spaces. It is very interesting to see them learn to use "GXl" to collaborate and create joint-solutions to complex problems. So far, the results are encouraging.
Beginning this coming Fall Quarter 2003, many of my university classes will be offered in a blended format. This means that I will teach class sections that include both live instruction, as well as, distance-learning instruction. I will have two distinct groups with which to contend.
Students will work from a common syllabus, take the same exams, and submit the same assignments. All students, whether live or distance-learning will have access to the same online materials (e.g., streaming lectures, problems explanations, and virtual office hours support).
I will continue to use my basic instructional design model (i.e., Groove + my website) to administer and deliver the online parts of my courses, However, I am trying to figure out how to make my website more interactive by using Microsoft's new Sharepoint Services. By doing this, all students in a blended class could intereact with each other.
While I find the Sharepoint Services stuff to be really exciting, I also find the information on Microsoft's Sharepoint website to be totally confusing. I have talked with my hosting service about the Sharepoint programs. With a little luck, they will help me to figure out how to develop a Sharepoint-enabled website.
I'm open to all the help I can get regarding implementing Sharepoint technology. If you're willing to help, I'm all ears! Please email me at rlillie@csusb.edu.
Have a great week.
