about trance
Watje is relocating to streamhead.com!
For various reasons, I am moving. Over the next month I will move the most interesting content over to the new blog, but I will not renew this account. So please update your bookmarks and news aggregators before this account expires.
Things are happening ... soon now ... stay tuned ...
It's that time of the year again. Every one is making his list of best and worst of 2004. And so is tranceaddict. They usually run a pretty descent track of the year contest, so go vote for your favorites there and make the poll even better.
So what did I choose. Well here's the list:
The top two was an incredible easy pick, these are top notch. However I got lost trying to find three others. There were so many good tracks, but so little excellent ear-popping tracks this year. Just my humble opinion, feel free to prove me wrong in the comments.
I'm also pretty surprised with the support Tilt's "The World Doesn't Know" gets. It's not a bad one but I don't think it is anything special either. I actually like the flipside more (the breaky "I know you're afraid")
You might (but you probably aren't) be wondering what happened to the whole mp3-blog idea. Well ... it's on a hiatus for now. I'm first going to relocate to another server, but I've been saying that since November. And there's also the "real life" thing so, please be patient :)
With 20 free tickets and two free bottles of champagne one tends to get attracted to places one would usually not visit often. So off we went to Cherry Moon.
When entering we feared the worst and were ready to accept that CM had turned into just another club with more of the same music you hear everywhere but that turned out to be one big wrong first impression. CM is still CM and the music is still what you're used to hearing there. Pounding hard trance with a twist of techno. It's definitely not every one's cup of tea, so apply your favorite booze in case of allergic reaction.
The people are still the same: pretty young but very much up for it, so you won't hear me complaining. So really, I have not much more to say here, except to go check it out once in a while.
Maybe just one more thing: on Saturday's there is a second room where your wussy friends can pretend to have fun while you're really going for it.
Mari Boine - Gula Gula (Chilluminati Mix)
Sometimes the bass just isn't doing it and it's time for a change. Enter the chill-compilations, headed by the Cafe Del Mar series. This here is an excerpt from "volumen ocho". That's "volume 8" for those really really bad at Spanish.
Originating at "the" Cafe Del Mar in San Antonia on Ibiza, this compilation far surpasses the quality of the actual pub. I would only suggest a visit if you're really out of bad ideas to waste tons of money. Just my humble opinion and you jet-set guys will certainly disagree but I disgress.
Volumen Ocho is a pretty good mix you will want to listen to on a Sunday morning (aka 3pm) to get that Saturday night stress out of your system. Or just to forget the amount of money well spend on drinks.
Get it from Amazon or wherever. It should be widely available.
Ridgewalkers featuring El - Find (original mix)
I wasn't able to access my PC during the weekend (didn't really feel the need to anyway), so the mp3 is a bit late. AFAIK the only way to obtain this track legally is buying the vinyl. I'm not really too fond of vinyl but this is one kick-ass track, so if you want it, why not try gemm.
(sorry, no picture for now since my gfx editor won't start anymore :( )
So I was going to do this weekly, but than life happened.
Anyway, I'd like to feature "Find" by Ridgewalkers featuring El, but I can't seem to find this one on cd. I'll look into it some more tomorrow, but I guess I'll just put it online anyway. It seems doubtful this is released on anything but a 12" vinyl since that's the only hit Gemm is giving me. This track is too good to get lost in history.
This one is really my type of sound, sweet, distant and dreamy vocals with lots of trancy progressive on top. That's pretty much all I got to say about it. I have absolutely no idea who made it. Neither discogs nor Baroque Records (on which it was released) give any information. Too bad.
But I do have the lyrics for you:
They always leave the best 'till last
Have understanding, no questions asked
You find yourself in what you see
You found yourself in me..
You found yourself in me..
The day is short, the night is cool
And this night, it was made for fools
You won't find fools like me and you
I found myself in you..
