InfoSpace forms deal with ABCNews.com. The wireless Internet software company says it will offer search features to ABCNews.com and distribute the news service's multimedia content to Verizon's broadband subscribers. By Jim Hu, Staff Writer, CNET News.com. [CNET News.com]

Very interesting to see a quality metasearch gaining some customers. So it is not all going to the big spidering engines.

SearchKing http://searchking.com/ has changed the way search results are displayed and has greatly increased the size of its database.

"Every search on SearchKing now pulls the ultimate, quality, topical, human reviewed data on the planet. Every search pulls the data from the portal network first and then the regular, hand submitted SearchKing results and then the backfill we have from Spaex." said SearchKing CEO Bob Massa in an announcement on February 10th, 2003.

I need your help. I cannot gather the information about all the smaller search engines and directories on my own. Heck I might not even know they exist. So I need you to tell me about them.

If you run a small search engine or directory let me know about it and keep me up to date on any news you might have about it. I will pass it on.

It does not have to be a formal press release. Just tell me interesting things about it, what you want to accomplish and include the URL. Helping others learn about alternative search locations, and why they should use them, is one of my most important tasks. Just click on the envelope icon on the left border and go! Or write me at altsearch_NO_SPAM@operamail.com Thanks.

SearchKing update: preliminary injunction denied [LawMeme: Legal Bricolage for a Technological Age]

Interesting coverage by LawMeme. I agree, that the denial of the prliminary injunction cannot be viewed as a SearchKing victory.

However, it is not over.

If Google's PageRank is an opinion, thus having 1st Amendment protection, can it also be patentable? This is the counterpoint that has been raised by SK in response.

Search Engine Optimization Support Forums http://www.supportforums.org/ made an interesting point:

Here is my take on it. The battle is not in the courtroom. The battle is in the court of public opinion.
