Orkut, It's Faster Than Friendster

I am having fun with Orkut (Thanks for the invite Kentaro!). It's just so much faster than Friendster. When I first started to use Friendster, the simple pleasure I got from adding friends was enough to ignore the slow site. But after awhile it just seemed to take forever. With Orkut, I logged in, updated my profile, added a bunch of friends, joined a couple of communities, shared some karma, and even started to organize groups of friends/acquaintances. All within about an hour.

I wonder why they used .Net stuff for Orkut. Maybe they setup a new Google cluster based on Micro$oft technology.

WinkSite Sidebar

Got my WinkSite moblog into my sidebar. I guess it looks painfully obvious.

Kewl thing is it's a Javascript (or I should say ECMAScript) that writes an iframe tag that calls a ColdFusion page. The WINKsite emulator then reads my Radio RSS feed and spits it out. So my blog calls the WINKsite moblog, which calls stuff from my blog again.

I'm Getting FOAFy Too

My coworker Ke-Ta setup a FOAF file. While trying to figure out how to add him as a friend, I ran into Marc Canter's blog post titled, Getting FOAFy. Decided to add the FOAF icons to my blog as well.

Make a new friend - add Christopher Kobayashi to your FoaF file! ADD me as a FOAF friend to your page

Getting Past My Social-Networking Ego Trip

There must be alot of activity going on with LinkedIn. For some wierd coincidence I've received simultaneous requests from several totally different networks, all mobile related. I created an account sometime in May, but never bothered playing with it. Probably because I thought it would be similar to Friendster, the other popular social-networking app.

Friendster was fun, but only got my attention for about 2 or 3 months. I must admit that I didn't really use it to meet new people with similar interests except for a couple of times. Now that I look back, I used it to see how many people I could get into my network. Must be my ego trip.

I logged-in to LinkedIn, and connected myself with people that I already know. I wonder why I didn't try to meet new people? Too much of a pain ... Maybe it's because of this cold that I got right now. Not enough motivation. I really should try to explore this space to get a better understanding of both the technology and the possibilities of digitizing our social ties.

I just bumped into this interesting piece titled, Missing the Point of Social Networks. I guess I missed the point ...
