I think Kinko's motto should be changed to NO we can't do that, NO we can't do that, NO we can't do that either.

I went in to get some magazine articles scanned at a high resolution with better equipment than I have a home for a website design and they said NO that can't do that, its copyrighted material - i didn't see a copyright anywhere on that magazine and neither did the other place I ended up going to.

Then I wanted them to print out my tutorials in color and bind them in a specific order. NO, we can't do that either because I had put a copyright on my materials (its my material, I created them, I have the right to get them printed) and the other place i went too had no problem printing my copyrighted material which I created

They turned some poor women away that wanted to copy a picture of her grandchild and why, the picture was copyrighted by the photographer. I heard them discuss someone's business card, they couldn't reproduce the card from a copy and needed in an eps format , that women looked bewildered, she asked what illustrator was and they said NO they couldn't help her

I asked if they had a computer guy onsite that could help me with the self-service scanner - NO, we don't offer that service.

Now tell me exactly why does Kinko's exist anymore? They can't do seem to do anything these days since FedEx bought them. They used to be really really helpful in getting a project done and now they can't do anything because NO they don't offer that service, NO they aren't allowed to do that

so word of advice - go check out Staples Copy and Print Center - great people and YES they can help you

as the search continues for a bookkeeper...I think the best bet at this point is to try a temp agency - I mean when I was out there looking for work, I went to a few different dozen looking for a job..they screen, they test, they check references, they do the work and I am so busy that I barely have a chance to call anyone for interviews let alone schedule an interview.

and if i want my little company to grow without my head exploding, then I need to hire someone, I feel like I neglecting some of my clients because I don't have enough time for them and I don't want to turn down potential new clients because I want this little company to grow

me thinks I'll just check around and see how much the different temp agencies I went through charge an employer, see the other side of the coin.

and the search continues...at first glance it looks like this one has some potential, its the 2nd sentence and the 4th sentence which caused me to stop and roll my eyes, why would I want to hire someone that can use quickbooks and quicken with problems? and while I like assertive people - I didn't particulary like that last couple of words, sort of just threw me off.....

Questions:
What accounting software programs have you used and/or currently using?
Do you have Mac experience
?

Answers: Software programs for accounting:

acpac, quickbooks various versions, quicken various versions, masterbuilder (construction), tenant pro (real estate management software), various tax preparation programs for filing my own as well as other individual's taxes.

I can use quickbooks and quicken with problems (I am a fast learner.

I have Mac experience and would have no problem using the operating system.

I trust the above answers your questions. Please call me for an interview or to hire me :).

you thought it was safe to go to bed, you're all quite snuggly and happy....

the cat throws up on you and the bed and the bedspread

you start to fall back asleep and...

the cat for some odd reason goes and throws up on your desk chair and your client folders..

just when you thought it was time for bed..

the cats have other ideas and race out the front door

awwwwwwwww its no fun when i decide what the hell, let them out

and who shall appear but the two who raced out in the first place

the other three missing in action..

and here i am half asleep patiently waiting and blogging

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

I'm overwhelmed and need time for myself, seriously I am just beyond overwhelmed, my company is growing and growing but I don't have time for me anymore. I actually made dinner yesterday night between thoughts and it seems that I never ever get time for me anymore..I need help

so I advertised again for a bookkeeper and this time I went through each resume and pulled the best 10 out of the 50 or so I got this time and thought I'd be a little more proactive and sent email questions to those potential people and people have responded but ARRRRRGGGGHHH

questions and the answers in blue

What accounting software programs have you used and/or currently using? For all accounting inquiries I was using mostly Microsoft Spreadsheets (Excel). As of right now I am going through training on Quickbooks
Do you have Mac experience? yes
I noticed that you were in school - how many hours do you have available to work? i go to school at night for accounting and have hours available PT during the day (did I miss something, this one doesn't have any accounting experience especially is she has only used excel for accounting and what does she mean by accounting inquires anyways, this is a full charge bookkeeping position??)

next...

Do you have Peachtree experience?
Do you have Mac experience?
Thank you for responding to the ad in craigslist.com, yes I do have 1year in Peachtree and 1half years in Mac. My phone will be on later tonight, my brother I share the phone minutes, he went over limites.  Please call me tomorrow morning, I am still interested in the job opening, I would like to meet with you this week if possible (ok I think he answered the question but he responded to my ad and I'm lead to think he's very young and very little experience in accounting among other things)

next....

Do you have Peachtree experience?
Do you have Mac experience?
I dont have experience with quickbook because my last bookeeping job we had peachtree only, But I am open to learn anything (ok three thoughts here..the ad was specific - you must know Quickbooks, didn't answer the Mac question and jesus people - try spell check before you send an email)

WTF? My ad was specific - you must know QB and Peachtree, PC and Mac and the english major in me - really can't stand people who can't spell don't even get me started on the resumes that came through that definetly weren't spell checked before sending out. What am I doing wrong - do people read ads anymore or do they just apply hoping that no one really cares about asking about their experience - hoping they will just fall through the cracks? If I wanted someone with no experience, I'd hire another student.

wow lots has happened since I lasted posted..and its not lack of something to say, just lack of sleep, lack of time.

Last night or was it this morning I made a choice to work through the night - my clients don't care as long as the work gets done and some are being quite funny when they call in the middle of the afternoon - I got a call from one client today at 4:30pm that said "we know its early for you to be waking up since its like 4:30 in the afternoon and laughter left on the voicemail" ha ha..rolling eyes. My mom was in town and she wanted to have dinner with me at 7pm - I usually work through til about 10 or 11 each night and then go home but since she wanted to have dinner  - it messed up my schedule so I went to dinner and then came home, did some things at home, feed the cats, took a shower and headed back out at 3am last night - got to the client's site at 3:45 and worked there til 7am, then headed over to another client's site and worked there til 11am when I just couldn't handle it anymore and I finally got time for me to go get an oil change, to get my car wash - omg, its so nice to have a clean car, go to the bank, go get my glasses adjusted, you know little things I don't have time for anymore and wouldn't you know it when I go home I couldn't sleep - don't get me wrong, I'm exhausted but maybe its just all this stuff floating around in my head, I just can't sleep quite yet. And it was surreal today, driving during the day time and it was only 11am and yet to me it felt like midnight.

So my mom and I are out eating at a really good place in SF - Firewood Cafe in the Castro and we're talking and then all of sudden she's not paying attention to me, she's staring. I guess there were two guys behind me french kissing and she was distracted. I asked her one thing - if it was a guy and a girl kissing behind me would she be that interested? She said no, not really. Then stop staring!  She told me this story about two men she saw in a store somewhere in the Castro (my sister lives like two blocks from the Castro area which is why my mom keeps seeing these things) that one man came up to another and was like "omg, you're hair is so cute" in a baby voice and then again I asked, if you saw two women doing that in Nordstrom's, would you think anything of it? And she realized, no she wouldn't. So why its it so weird to see two men doing it? Have to make her think occasionally :) And maybe because I'm around gay men all the time now - most of my clients are gay - that it just doesn't faze me anymore.

I am desperatly trying to hire someone again - trying another approach to my ad, I think I might have a couple of good candiates this time around - we shall see with the next wave of interviews - really if you know anyone like me that's looking for a job - please send them my way.

Interesting news at Radio - I noticed Steve Kirks is no longer working there. And Jake seems to be back in the picture - picking up slack on the discussion board - although its not like he'll talk to me or anything but still its interesting.

Oh yea, its Valentine's Day - yeah - its been so long without sex or someone to talk to romantically - it really just doesn't matter that much to me. Its not like anyone bought me roses or anything and everyone was so happy happy valentine's day to me today and honestly I was damn tired, who cared, really.

What else is flying through my head..oh yea, I went to Yahoo personal just to see what kind of people were on it and damn it, my first match was Hasad - shit, why is he still a match - he's still cute but been there done that.

I signed up for Kaiser as a small business and was approved and then I started thinking about it, I thought I could handle going back to Kaiser after all these years and starting over with new doctors and then I realized something, I've had the same doctors for the last 10-20 years and I like them and don't want to start over period...so my poor health insurance guy - I emailed him and told him to cancel the Kaiser group insurance and I defintely want Blue Cross and I also realized something, some day when I get pregnant and want to have a baby, I sure as hell don't want to have it at Kaiser, I was thinking more along of the lines of Mt Diablo Hospital that has a baby wing and all that good stuff..so trying to get health insurance again..

wow, I think I might have dumped it all out..i'm tired

not like I need another blog but I gave myspace a chance again, once you get around the whole what you're looking for and not initially put your pic up..its a much better experience..hopefully, by putting my pic up after the fact - I won't still get the weirdos..I'm more interested in the creative aspects of people..the music, start to find my creative streak again, cuz accounting/IT all the time is making julie a really stressed out person, I need to find my writing and art side again before I go nuts in general....anyways, you can find me over there too at whispercave (which reminds me I need to copyright and trademark that name along with chaotic cancellation and shimmering energy - I have a new client that's a trademark lawyer who suggested I trademark my names) and also my friendster account - I'm canceling, i haven't been there in forever..only sooooooooo many locations I can remember or deal with these days and after reading the article about the person being fired at friendster for blogging..i thought the point of friendster was to create a social friendly network..who would have guessed that blogging wasn't included and my god, the server is slow..

although tonight i got home and actually just had time for me, hence the blogging and creating pictures and generally just not working!!

almost forgot, check out my various friends at whispercave for some great music...
