I've been in OC all week and I am sooooooooooooooooo happy to be home in my own house, my own bed is waiting and my babies - all 5 are still here, soft and furry and warm. I so missed sleeping with them especially when I'm sick. And now I remember why I stopped being an IT project manager so long ago - the attitudes of people resistant to change - you'd think this were grown adults but nooooo
the sales group - they didn't want to have to do anything hard and complicated, the whiners
the operations group - if they don't make eye contact with me, then somehow they were invisible and they didn't have to learn anything new and that doesn't work, leave the office on some important mission for the day (although I did give my main contact an idea, on the day the system finally goes live, cut this group of people off from the old system - that way they will have to learn the new system one way or another)
the accounting group - they want the change yet are too busy to learn the new procedures, although I do give them credit, at least they finally stopped what they were doing and took the time to at least learn some of the functions
the owner - i think he might be in a class of his own. I think he wants the new system up and running deep down inside somewhere but he doesn't want to let go of the old system
the service dept - I like them, they are the techs and since systems are always changing, they constantly have to learn new ideas and they want something that will make it easier to work with the team.
and honestly if you schedule someone out there to train and get everyone up and running on the new system - don't you think you would make time in your schedule to be there. If he knew he wasn't planning on being there - then why did I come out? I guess I shouldn't complain because either way I get paid and he better pay me without hassle this time and its his money but I feel like it was a waste of time because he wasn't there, he didn't push the issue with the avoiders and the whiners.
And last thing I'll bitch about - if information is requested and nothing is received, the information that gets imported into the new database might be spotty and might be based on what I know rather than the way you ideally want it. I mean really, people respond to the emails if you want something different, otherwise I go forward with the original plan.
I was sick all week too, nothing like being sick and have to deal with a frustrating set of circumstances and people that just don't want anything to do with a new system, I almost lost it and told them all were to go with themselves.
A few times, a couple of people asked me how old I was because there is no way I could have all this experience, really you shouldn't judge a book by its cover - just because I look really young, doesn't mean I am, I just age really well *grin*
