testing moving permalink to bottom of post..ok that worked, not exactly where I wanted it but now I know how to move it around and since it has to stay in the day template if I want it to be in theme

lightbulb - i was playing with another idea for the permalink - filling in the color so its there but not there - lets see if that works...it works but I need to make the permalink transparent or something..color is off a smidgen

lets see if I succeeded in getting rid of the extra line..yep that worked

now what about the archive link - why does one need this? is it the same as the day level permalink? lets see..yep, it is, now why can Radio just call is one thing?

lets see if I can move it to the item template instead..nope, can't move it, it causes an error - back to the day template..odd, I wonder how I can move it down the page

Moving Long Date

moving the long date from the top of the post to where the time is located at the bottom of the post

1. Go to this page - for the day template - http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.3 and copy this code

<div class="date"> <%archiveLink%>  <%longDate%> </div> - paste into notepad or a text editor

then delete the <%longDate%> macro from the template

click on submit

2. Go to this page - for the item template - http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.4 and paste the code you just copied from the item template minus the <%archiveLink%> 

into the item template - this is what you're pasting: <div class="date"><%longDate%></div>

depending on where you would like the date to appear, you can paste that code before the time or <%when%> or after the time or have everything on the same line

I have changed mine to appear before the time after the permalink which is that little # sign and with everything on the same line and my item template looks like this (i enclosed everything inside the <div> </div> code to have it all on the same line)

Click on submit.

3. Changing the size of the long date - go to this page for the home template: http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

and scroll down til you find .date (it will be about mid way down in the template) - you need to change the font size of the date to 10px instead of 14px and delete a margin top css code

Before you change the css code - its looks like this:

    font-family:verdana, arial, sans-serif;
    font-size: 14px; >>>>>change this to 10px
    color: #999;
    font-weight:bold;
    text-transform:uppercase;
    margin-top:10px;    >>>>>>delete this line
    border-bottom:1px solid #666;

after you make the changes - it will look like this

Click on submit.

4. Repeat step 3 on main template - go to this page http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.1 - click on submit when done with changes

Post something new and your date should now appear at the bottom of the post

Now if you don't want the date to appear at all, skip part 2, 3 and 4

interesting - lets see if this works, if you don't want the date to appear at the top of your posts...do you just delete the longdate macro in the day template? omg, its that easy. Lets see if you want the permalink and the long date to appear at the bottom of your text - do you just insert it into the item template instead? lets see..nope, archive link gets funky when you move it..but the longdate worked..

so how does one make those changes..answers soon..gotta go change the litter and take out the trash..maybe upstreaming will be a little faster when i come back?

oops one more idea, then I'll get upxxx, ok got that to work...

Movable Radio Modern Template Changes

changing the location of the calendar and adding a picture to Bryan Bell's MOVABLE RADIO MODERN theme

first thing this assumes that you are already using Movable Radio Modern as your theme

second thing - go to this page with Radio open http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

1. Adding a picture to above the calendar

Go back to this page - http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

Scroll down (its about 13 lines from the bottom) until you find <div id="links">

You're going to add an image source link macro to the code - this assumes that you've already upstream the image to your images folder - I added a marble jpeg to my template and I wanted it centered

techically you should use the radio macro but for the life of me I can't get it to work...html code works..just find the url of the image and paste that in place of my url image code

click on submit, post something and see if you're picture has showed up above the calendar

ok..trying to write a newbie tip here what the hell does this mean: [Macro error: String constant isn't correctly specified. Must be of the form "abcd".] I could go look it up in the kickstart book, but I haven't the foggiest idea where I put that book, ok strike that thought, figured it out, I left out a slash...apparently I've lost my mind, it suppose to work with the radio macro, why isn't it working? oh well, html coding works too.

2. Now onto moving the calendar to below the navigator links

Go back to this page http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

Scroll down til you find this code again <div id="links">

You're going to cut this code

and then paste it back two lines down below the navigator links code (shown below in blue)

also you'll be adding a space right in front of the paste code (shown in teal below)

it will look like this after you've pasted the code back into the template under the navigator links

click on submit, post something and your calendar, cross your fingers will be under the navigator links and its works..wahoo

interesting I had to pull out the kick start book to figure out what macros to put on the desktop website template - radio userland documentation tells you what you need but doesn't explain why..thank god,I have the kick start book :)

desktop website - everytime I design one of these desktop website templates - I think to myself, I really need to fix mine, although I'm definetly a 3 column kind of person - its coming along, I like it

energy level is back up, creative juices flowing, i had a dream on how to design the desktop template, time to finish the beauty dish theme, things to finish:

add a little more padding - i was trying to line up the post with the title but for the life of me can't figure it out
work on the desktop theme
finish and move everything to default folders to save as a new theme (remember to save current files first*grin*)
see if I can figure out how to add a line underneath each post - well, now I know how to do that, but it didn't look right, too busy
oops, looks like i forgot to place the avon lady cam inside the template - fixed
little tweaks here and there with the calendar, little more tweaking

wow, working on the desktop theme now - definetly needs help, totally skewed - ok that's fixed

ok that didn't work..but I know its something to do with the bodytext table sizing or maybe its something to do with the item template..hmm..nope that wasn't it..time to eat, feed/water/litter the cats and work on something else..maybe it will come to me, ok one more try, then get up..cell padding??? ok its really hard to see the imaginary line..putting a border around the body text to see if its moving the right direction...temporary check..interestingly enough i wasn't hitting the bodytext area.....its something stupid, I know it is, why am i not grasping it?

on the bright side, I have a cute idea for the desktop website template

changed my navigator links - simple - hell why not, I don't use them anymore, I don't think - might need to check all my pages to see if any got messed up and put my blogrolls into place

lightbulb - must put in CSS code for A links but not all the A links..changed my font size..oops

maybe designing a theme for a women is easier than for a man (both of whom I've never met) I felt kinda of bad that I couldn't get the right idea going for Coyote Gulch but somehow for the Beauty Dish, its all coming together nicely. Gripes from the Grumpy Girl was another theme that just came together but maybe its because I can relate to her blog and the Beauty Dish, I read her posts and think I can so relate to what she's saying and maybe its because we're all about the same age...but Coyote Gulch honestly I just couldn't get into his blog and maybe that's what made the difference - do I relate to them in some way, do they tell me who that person is, how they think?

interestingly enough if you forgot the bodytext macro, nada on the template design

the bubble bath image was way too big, lets see if i got it to a manageable size

and the colors needed to be tweaked a little

and where did this funky horizontal line come from?

still testing a new design for Birdie....

does anyone actually read this blog anymore? I'll admit, I like comments - they make the blog world go round - am I heading on the right track on my thoughts, are they interesting thoughts? or are they just boring, maybe I need to create some new newbie tips - but hell, really do I have time to do that anymore - yea, in a very scattered sort of way

amazing oh jesus kind of discovery today, I was trying to figure out why one of my client's computers is moving at a snail's pace and there are no 2000 printer drivers beside the fact that she still has a PII with a 4GB hard drive in it that was originally an WIN95 computer upgraded to a WIN2000 computer and damn I discovered that during a checkdisk - that the whole damn 4GB is completely fragmented - red across the board and not only is it fragmented, I can't defrag it because it doesn't have enough space to run. Oh and the printer drivers, well whoever did the upgrade never finished installing the service packs probably because there's not enough room on the hard drive to install them - no service packs, no drivers updated. And she still doesn't understand, the computer is dying, on its last legs..and no way on earth can I upgrade it to XP with that hard drive.

how to replace the coffee mug logo in the default template with your own logo..a newbie tip is born

Step 1 - you need to upstream/upload your picture (your logo) to the cloud.

Open the radio application > then open the www folder > then open the images folder, you can either place the your image directly into the images folder or create a new folder for your personal pictures. I recently created a new folder inside the images folder called birthday wish list 2005 and then pasted pictures in that folder from my computer.

Step 2 - Deleting the top part of coffee mug image

Open your #hometemplate by going to this page http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

Read the code source until you located the image ref information - as seen in green below -

it will look like this when you are done (I used a marble image)

Time for a simple design....testing..also avoiding those dreaded taxes..yikes. except the cat wants to help again with the typing...

test 1 - that looks ok..except for a small border issue - fixed

test 2 - ok, now I fixed the border issue

test 3 - weird extra row I didn't add - appeared, maybe its gone

test 4 - last test, I'm fading and still need to do invoicing for tomorrow

Designing a theme - since my javascript for some bizarre reason was getting jumbled during upstream, I thought why not, lets see if I can use CSS to create image rollovers, start from scratch and just insert the Radio macros exactly where I want them instead of copying from another template design. Only problem - I can't seem to access radio.userland.com to see what macros I need to include..so from memory, lets see what happens...

test1 - cool, that worked, now for some minor changes

test 2 - font was a little small, fixed. something funky with my image rollover but its getting there. love the header, fixed some cell padding. (its raining - no wonder my knees are aching and the cats are needy)

test3 - not sure if I like the font color (any thoughts?) think I figured out the image swapping with CSS..much better than javascript and radio seems to like it better (see if this works, then off to hookup the wireless router) upstreaming not working..defintely time to work on something else

test4 image swapping working, upstreaming working, yeah.....time to see if coyote gulch likes the base idea..(wireless router working..time to move it to its new home)

hmmm..javascript isn't working - still isn't working - hell - what is the problem, suppose to be random images on the top of the page - maybe I need to try another script?
