Autofill Outlook 2003 Tip

Running Outlook 2003 on a Win XP Pro box. When entering the email "To"field, the auto-fill function nicely provides relevant possibilities - love the feature but how do you delete a wrong email address or delete an unwanted email address

Answer - actually very simple but i had to search for it

Just start typing the name. It should become high-lighted...press the delete key. removes it from your choice list..easy :)

Moving Long Date

moving the long date from the top of the post to where the time is located at the bottom of the post

1. Go to this page - for the day template - http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.3 and copy this code

<div class="date"> <%archiveLink%>  <%longDate%> </div> - paste into notepad or a text editor

then delete the <%longDate%> macro from the template

click on submit

2. Go to this page - for the item template - http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.4 and paste the code you just copied from the item template minus the <%archiveLink%> 

into the item template - this is what you're pasting: <div class="date"><%longDate%></div>

depending on where you would like the date to appear, you can paste that code before the time or <%when%> or after the time or have everything on the same line

I have changed mine to appear before the time after the permalink which is that little # sign and with everything on the same line and my item template looks like this (i enclosed everything inside the <div> </div> code to have it all on the same line)

3. Changing the size of the long date - go to this page for the home template: http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

and scroll down til you find .date (it will be about mid way down in the template) - you need to change the font size of the date to 10px instead of 14px and delete a margin top css code

Before you change the css code - its looks like this:

    font-weight:bold;
    text-transform:uppercase;

after you make the changes - it will look like this

Click on submit.

4. Repeat step 3 on main template - go to this page http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.1 - click on submit when done with changes

Post something new and your date should now appear at the bottom of the post

Now if you don't want the date to appear at all, skip part 2, 3 and 4

Movable Radio Modern Template Changes

first thing this assumes that you are already using Movable Radio Modern as your theme

second thing - go to this page with Radio open http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

1. Adding a picture to above the calendar

Go back to this page - http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2

Scroll down (its about 13 lines from the bottom) until you find <div id="links">

You're going to add an image source link macro to the code - this assumes that you've already upstream the image to your images folder - I added a marble jpeg to my template and I wanted it centered

techically you should use the radio macro but for the life of me I can't get it to work...html code works..just find the url of the image and paste that in place of my url image code

click on submit, post something and see if you're picture has showed up above the calendar

ok..trying to write a newbie tip here what the hell does this mean: [Macro error: String constant isn't correctly specified. Must be of the form "abcd".] I could go look it up in the kickstart book, but I haven't the foggiest idea where I put that book, ok strike that thought, figured it out, I left out a slash...apparently I've lost my mind, it suppose to work with the radio macro, why isn't it working? oh well, html coding works too.

2. Now onto moving the calendar to below the navigator links

You're going to cut this code

and then paste it back two lines down below the navigator links code (shown below in blue)

Newbie Tip - Coffee Mug replacement on default theme

how to replace the coffee mug logo in the default template with your own logo..a newbie tip is born

Step 1 - you need to upstream/upload your picture (your logo) to the cloud.

Open the radio application > then open the www folder > then open the images folder, you can either place the your image directly into the images folder or create a new folder for your personal pictures. I recently created a new folder inside the images folder called birthday wish list 2005 and then pasted pictures in that folder from my computer.

Step 2 - Deleting the top part of coffee mug image

Next scroll down til you find this image reference (about 9 lines down from the previous image reference in step 2)

You are going to delete the section in blue and replace the section in pink with your logo or image

it will look like this when you are done (I used a marble image)

I left a comment on the discussion board about book rolls, requesting a link and then life got busy, I got sidetracked and didn't get a chance to check back to see if a link was posted - thankfully someone else posted a response to the question however once I saw the link and understood what a book roll was - I realized tweezerman had already discovered how to add a graphic inside a blogroll for Radio......

Several people have asked for a tutorial on changing template designs, here is a beginning tip

If you are using the Moveable Radio - blue theme and you want to change the heading or banner colors from blue to pink, here is how you do it:

Look for the #banner CSS Style code in your #hometemplate which you can find here from within radio: http://127.0.0.1:5335/system/pages/prefs?page=3.2, the #banner isn't that far from the top of the template

Step by Step from adding a picture to a folder to insert into your blog.

Lets start from the basic basics..and go around the mypictures tool

for example, I have a picture on my desktop on my pc and I want to post that picture on my weblog..

Step 1: Open Radio, you'll have the radio icon in your system tray..right bottom of screen on XP..right click that icon and open the www folder

Step 2: You'll see a bunch of folders there. Create a new folder by right clicking in the screen, select NEW > FOLDER, name this folder something like SexyMagicks Pics

Step 3:
Find the picture you want to copy to this newly created folder, right click on the picture and COPY

Step 4: go back to the www folder and open this newly created folder by doubleclicking on it, then right click and PASTE the picture into the folder

Step 5: go to your desktop website page in radio, click on the FOLDER link from the top of the screen..you should see a folder called SexyMagick Pics, if you click on that folder from inside the desktop website, you should then see the picture you pasted into the folder inside the www folder. (you might have to wait for the picture to upstream to the radio server..be patient..it will work)

if you get lost or need help, email me..and we will go through it step by step..don't give up..it does work.. I found the mypictures tool to be a little complicated too..but this way should be easier.

solving the mysterious problems of a mac user...I've been trying to help another user with her problem on her blog.. see the discussion thread here....I'm not a Mac user and i'm not sure what I'm seeing from her finders results..screenshot, if you are a Mac user, any suggestions welcome...

any ideas or suggestions also welcome to help fix the problem..maybe a clean reinstall would do the trick but I don't want her to lose any data and don't know how to help her backup her data files if she doesn't know what she is looking at or where to look for the data files..a step by step newbie user guide to finding your radio files on a mac would be most welcome..

Newbie Tip: Category Link Macro - How to Install and Use

You can download the macro here: Item Categories Macro (by right clicking on the link if you have windows and saving target as "the default name" on to your hard drive - I usually save it on my desktop easy to find when you go to install it)

How to install this script into your Radio.root:

You will then need to install it into Radio. Bring your Radio application to the front.(right click on your radio icon in your system tray - windows users - an click on open radio) From the 'File' menu choose 'Open...' and then select the newly downloaded script. A box will open, asking "Name for imported object?" and "workspace.itemCategories" will be displayed in the text box. Click OK to install the script. You will then see the script in a window.

Click Compile, then close the window. (Advanced Users: Or take a look at the code if you want to see what is under the hood, then close the window.) The macro is now ready to use.

Usage - The following code should be used in the #itemTemplate: (copy and paste the following code into your #itemTemplate)

Opening your #itemTemplate

1. either right click on your radio icon again and click on open www folder, you will see your #itemTemplate in this folder, double-click on it and it will open on a notepad text format (if you open it this way, once you insert the macro, click on file > save)

2. go to the PREFS > TEMPLATES > ITEM TEMPLATE from the Radio Desktop Website (if you open the #itemtemplate this way, click on submit after you insert the macro)

Additional Notes on the Macro and Separator Options

Parameters: <%itemNum%>: Required. This is how the macro knows what post to get the list of categories for. (just information regarding the macro and how it works - you don't need to do anything)

Separator: Optional. Defaults to ", ". Characters and/or HTML to be inserted between each item category if there is more than one. Separator is *not* appended after last item category listed. Some examples : ", " " | " "  " "<br>" (you can change the separator of the categories you happen to list more than one for the post, it currently defaults to "," if you want to change the separator:

Newbie Tip - Category Link Macro - How to Install and Use

adding text colors inside the comment box..

interesting find..I was trying to figure out how to add colors to my comments or when I insert a comment into my comments..its all code - let me explain, the comments box is basically a WYSIWYG comment box without the text formatting options, in order to change the color of the comment text you have to insert the html code such as <FONT color=blue> and </FONT> before and after the text in order for the text to change colors..when you submit, then it populates the code into the comment box

now why this never dawned on me before..guess I had no reason to try it..but very interesting..

for example: inside the comment box, you can add quotes normally and it understands the code but in order to add the text colors..you'd have to submit the comment code as follows:

"I asked the UK team but they seem incredibly unwilling to share this information with us,..."

My guess is they're trying to cover the fact that they don't actually know.

Radio Calendar Bug Fix...

There seems to be a bug in Radio that if you don't post to the main page on the last day of the month and only to a category on the last day of the month, you'll get a 404 page error. I had the same thing happen to me at the end of August. TweezerMan posted the problem about the Radio weblog calendar bug in greater detail

There are two work arounds available for it: First workaround option: Open your www folder, then open the 2003 folder, then the 10 folder, copy the 30.txt file and paste into the same folder, rename it to 31.txt, open it and change the following the #archiveDate to "2003/10/31" and save

Second workaround option: open radio, from the desktop page (the editing page) enter the following: http://127.0.0.1:5335/2003/10/31 click the edit this page button and insert a post, save. This puts a post on the last day of the month for your main blog.

XML and RSS files...

Someone asked me a question about the point of XML or RSS files...I answered to the best of my knowledge but if anyone can explain a little better...please comment...

Question: What is the point of the XML (or RSS) files? Can they be edited? Actually the blog seems to operate with HTML, so I haven't quite got why the XML files are necessary

Userland's Definition: Radio automatically turns the content on your weblog into a XML feed that can be syndicated and subscribed to by other Radio users.

Here is what I understand about it:

your blog is in HTML format so you can edit and post it but
Radio converts it to XML in the background so that your blog can be read in the RSS format which is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites or blog sites.
You are editing the XML files in a round about way when you edit your blog.

Changing Navigator Link Preference using CSS Styles

In response to a question on the discussion board on formatting navigator links for category pages..(changing font size and doublespacing), here are some basic instructions:

Lets see if I can explain this where it makes sense. Each category is like its own little blog, therefore if you edit the navigator links preferences (size, color, etc..) for the main blog it doesn't always populate to the category pages.

So what you need to do in each #hometemplate of each category is add the following navigator link css style code in the appropriate section of the #hometemplate, you can just copy and paste this code into your #hometemplate.

Newbie Tip: Changing Blogroll Format to Horizontal View

Yesterday I posted help (want blogroll to go horizontal) and thanks again to David Phillips/Tweezerman...we got this working..check out the sexymagick category to see my new blogroll horizontally on the page.

The reason I wanted to have my blogroll go horizontal is because I'm using bryan bell theme, discreet radio blog in black which has the navigator links horizontally across the page but I could never figure out how to get the blogroll that I was using to look the same as the navigator links. I knew it was in the css style code but wasn't sure where. I ended up creating a new blogroll specifically for the horizontal view..too much information filled up the top of the page.

Tweaking Radio's HTML Editors

Today I decided to try David Phillips javascript Tweaking Radio's HTML editors (both of them!) to change the fonts used by the built-in HTML editor, works great. I'm using Courier New font for this post.

If I could figured out the font family for Comic Sans Ms then I'd be good.

I'd also like to be able to change the font colors available..I haven't ever used darkgoldenrod, gray or olive and would like to change them to mediumvioletred and slateblue and dodgerblue, I'm assuming that with a little modification to David's script that I can change the colors but not sure which way it should be, possibly one of these

Thanks David..this is great!!!! So much easier than changing the hard coded script in Radio and this way doesn't wipe out changes with each radio.root update.

Update..we figured out the font family of Comic Sans MS - its Comic Sans MS - using it from the drop down box now

and the correct code for changing the colors in the drop down box is (whereas 13 was olive and 15 was darkgoldenrod)

New feature: Comment Notification via Email. We've got a new feature for Radio and Manila: Comment notification via email. When someone posts a comment on your Radio or Manila site, an email is sent with information about the person who posted the comment, a link to the post they're commenting on, and the text of the comment itself. This is a great feature..since I'm never sure if someone has asked me a question on my comments and I don't always check my categories to see if I got a comment or not..thanks jake
