I think I'm starting the weekend a bit early this week. Erik Arneson, the Guide to Board Games at About, has put together a list of the fifty games he considers most influential in the history of games.
I looked at the list, because anyone growing up in a big family in the 1950s, as I did, played lots of games. My memory does not always jive with Erik's as we played poker, pool, checkers, war, fish, and canasta - yes, most of these are card games, not board games. My family memories include more card games than anything else. Board games were difficult when the average game playing crowd was 12 - 14 (my immediate family!).
Take a look at Erik's list. I enjoyed reading about the earliest games and seeing where my favorites made or didn't make the list.
