Today, the supervisor who participated with me in firing several employees last week at a client company is having second thoughts. Perhaps she is receiving legitimate information from staff (who were unwilling to come forward during the investigation or during the commission of the crimes to testify). Perhaps, she is feeling guilty for "depriving a good employee of a job." (Yet, she failed to inform us of the things she is bringing up today.)
Perhaps I need to check her judgment as she was totally unaware of what was happening in her department for over two months. People she trusted were stealing from us. I find lots of "what ifs."
I think the truth is that you do the best you can, with the evidence you have, and then you stop second guessing yourself. I told her today that good people get hurt when other good people don't choose to tell management what is going on.
This quote is a bit heavy, but this is how I was feeling today. An earlier philosopher said something to the effect of: evil prevails when good men fail to come forward. I'll find it and post it exactly.
Warmly,
Susan
