ITunes, Now for the Rest of Us. With his usual razzmatazz, Apple's Steve Jobs introduces the iTunes music download service for Windows PCs. He also announces marketing campaigns with Pepsi and AOL that could wean people off the illegal stuff. Leander Kahney reports from San Francisco. [Wired News]

Gates: Tv en cd verdwijnen. De computer is over vijf jaar het centrale punt in elke huiskamer. CD's en televisies verdwijnen langzaam maar zeker naar de achtergrond. Dat voorspelt Microsoft-topman Bill Gates, die gisteren een werkbezoek bracht aan Nederland. ,,De computer gaat al deze functies overnemen'', zo hield de 47-jarige Gates tijdens een strak geregisseerd bezoek aan het Circustheater in Scheveningen zijn gehoor voor. ,,Het is nu al toch veel handiger om een klein mp3-spelertje in je zak te steken waarop zo'n 3000 tunes gezet kunnen worden, dan een portable cd-speler?'' Ook voor de televisie ziet Gates geen lang leven meer beschoren. ,,Door de ontwikkeling van de digitale techniek en de opkomst van adsl en breedbandkabel is internet veel beter en sneller geworden. En in de toekomst zal het alleen nog maar harder gaan. Om de twee jaar komen er nieuwe processors die veel beter en goedkoper zijn dan hun voorganger. Mobile Burn loves Sony Ericsson's Z600. Mobile Burn managed to get its hands on one of Sony Ericsson's Z600 cameraphones, which is essentially Sony Ericsson's T610, just with a clamshell design. They say that it's "damn near perfect," keeping many of the best features of the T610 and improves on it with a better screen and substantially improved reception. First 14.1-inch Tablet PC. Though they're not shipping it yet, Acer's C300 convertible-style Tablet PC has turned up on its web site. The C300 is a big deal if for no other reason than that it will have the largest screen (14.1-inches) as well as the fastest processor (a 1.5GHz Centrino) of any Tablet PC yet sold. De Japanse elektronicagigant Sharp heeft z'n reeds eerder deze maand aangekondigde laptop met 3D-scherm gepresenteerd. De notebook is uitgevoerd met een display die de gebruiker de illusie van diepte geeft. Afbeeldingen zijn op het apparaat driedimensionaal te bewonderen, zonder dat daarvoor een speciale bril nodig is.

Sony's personal video player. A beautiful-looking video iPod from Sony that just might be the gadget we've been waiting for. Right now it's just a prototype, but a Vaio personal video player with a 3.5-inch high-resolution LCD screen and a 20GB hard drive for loading up to 10 hours of MPEG-2 video has turned up at the WPC Expo in Tokyo.
