How did I start using Final Cut anyway. Am I part of the cult. Maybe, maybe not. I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Analysts: AOL layoffs could be death knell for Netscape browser. Analysts said AOL's decision to lay off about 50 Netscape software developers and end development on the Mozilla browser means a slow death for the one-time browser king. [Computerworld News]

I cannot say this enough. The more soured I am on the Mac OS, the more I see examples of better technology that keeps getting passed by. Apple's financial statements speaks volumes about how hard it is waging a war of software development against an industrial giant. Netscape as an actual downloadable browser product is no more. We will all now bow our heads in honor of the passing of a friend.

O'Reilly Releases "Digital Video Pocket Gui. The new "Digital Video Pocket Guide" (O'Reilly, $15) by Derrick Story is a complete guide to shooti... [MacNN | The Macintosh News Network]

I'm a bit of a video hack I'll admit. I like to acquire things relating to shooting video like expensive copies of software and hardware doodads like USB based shuttle-jog wheels. I read both the sample chapters from this book today just after reading this article and I have to say they do remind the reader of fundamentals. Like, "Watch out for the back-lighting on your subjects. It will throw off the auto-exposure every time". Good stuff for all the novices I would say, and I've had to counsel people on these fundamentals every time they show up wanting to digitally edit video where I work.

Cisco issues network security brown alert. Serious DoS risk [The Register]

It was bound to happen eventually, Cisco would be hostage to its arduous legacy of software revisions, that came harder and faster as the Internet bubble inflated. Mission creep and featuritis have allowed a bug to enter a wide range of IOS revs. Now everyone's scrambling and the Incident Response Teams around the world are convening meetings at every corporation in order to quickly plan a remediation schedule. Good luck to all the network engineers worldwide. Monopolies, it appears, might be a bad thing.

Intersil quits 'overcrowded' WiFi, finds sucker to buy. Long odds [The Register]

I just had to follow up yesterday's article on the consolidation in wireless and Intersil's quick exit from the market. The Register speculates Broadcom threw Intersil into a tailspin when they delivered 802.11g chipsets 6 months before the spec and standard were ratified by IEEE. They couldn't be the first and gain market share, so they got the hell out. Interesting idea, and I don't have a clue if it's true, sounds plausible. I didn't really keep up with events so I don't know who got to market first. I know many companies had plans to get silicon out before the spec was ratified.

Simon Hattenstone meets Britain's No 1 graffiti artist, Banksy. Arts: Simon Hattenstone meets Banksy, Britain's No 1 graffiti artist. [Guardian Unlimited]

Damien Hirst eat your formaldeyde preserved heart out, Banksy makes you look like an establishment boob! This is the first news I've read about this guy. Sounds like a regular kind of guy who has really found his life's calling.
