The Bible ain't an interactive novel? The Koran? I think Swift wrote Gulliver's Travels over like seventeen years so I figure it seventeen years interactive in one direction and wholly interactive in my direction cos it's out of copyright so I can tear it up any way I want. One of the things skool was supposed to instill in me was a respect for books but Daddy, like Atticus, had already taught me how to read so I had already twigged to the in between the lines bit. And then the technological processes whereby books in their physical manifestation became as valueless pop cans, well that wasn't nothing to do with me. But in my thinking about fiction, Fiction, it is distinguishable from History and Journalism only possibly in terms of readership. Fiction is aimed at Chinese kids about twenty years from now. Because they hunger to journey to the heart of rock and roll Texas, oh you'd be surprised how they yearn. Unborn and yearning to know how to bop in our crackling electric modernity. What we wanna give them is Swinging London Down A Red Dirt Road, being the first album recorded by the Mythos of the Empire of Dr. Bienke featuring the Hit Single: 'T S Eliot was my idiot cousin.' On the flip side: 'Terry Southern made my dreams, but when I'm in Connecticut I pretend it was Gore Vidal.'
