6 days to go
So Hearts are the first team to lift a tropy this year. Thanks to their highly significant win in the Festival cup final against Hibernian. There was a crowd of 10,000 to see the game which has been disparaged in some reporting - but take a look at our previous attendance league table and you will see that this is a pretty repectable crowd by SPL standards.
Celtic drew 1-1 with Arsenal in their friendly on Saturday but I think the most interesting thing about this game was Arsene Wenger's post-match comment. He reckons that Scottish football would die without Celtic and Rangers. And I agree with him. I have been strongly opposed to talk of the Old Firm joining the English Premiership. For me, it would be a death knell for Scottish football and the first step to a British national team as well.
To suggest that attendances at Scottish games would actually increase without the big two becuase the league would be more open is insanity. For one thing all eyes would be looking south (even more than they already are), and for another a new status quo would soon emerge, probably with the Edinburgh clubs taking on the "New Firm" mantle.

Manchester United feeder club Livingston have a new coach, Marcio Maximo Barcellos. Apparently he is introducing Brazilian style football to Almondvale. Does this mean the team will only play when the sun shines? If so, I think we have this year's first candidates for relegation.
