More mural photos for the new year....
It is still not complete, but its very close to being done. I've included updated photos below. This will be the final post of phots until its done. Maybe I'll get Scoble to come over and take some quality shots when its done, or it least to drink a few.

This first shot is up the stairway, we're finally on that wall now. When complete this walll will have a doorway here, a coke sign and I believe some exposed brick. This is to simulate an alleway.

Still some more details left on this (the flowers are not done), the signage above is incomplete, but its getting very close.

Anyhow that is all for now, hope you've enjoyed watching this progress, we've sure had fun watching it come together.

Next we're onto a small extension to our home. If anyone reads this post and knows of a small reliable, and well priced contractor for a little remodelling job, please drop me a comment.

More Mural Photos
Today is Lauri's birthday, although the mural is not complete it is just amazing to see it close to being completed. Hard to believe there is still one whole wall that has not even been started on yet.

Is Dave headed in this direction?
I think I know where Dave is headed with his new categorization system, or at least this is where I hope he is headed. :-)

What if all Weblog entries had religous use of categories like Dave's has been applying to his posts since inception?

First off its not realistic to think everyone will change their ways and become the masters of categories. Also what I think might be a story about home improvement to another person could be about modern art. To make this happen we need to involve the Weblog community to categorize the Weblog world.

Here's one way to do it:

Imagine if the aggregator author's incorporated randomn peer privilege into their products like Slashdot.org has. But with one big difference. Instead of giving people the ability to moderate a post up or down people, it could be used to apply categories to the posts. This category data would be rolled back up to an impartial set of servers, distributed via P2P and back to the originating weblog. This would give us an open directory for browsing weblogs.

I spend way too much time scouting Google for Weblog posts for topics that I am interested in. A distributed system like this with items tagged by the community in an open hierarchy would be really amazing.

This sort of reminds me of the good old days of the web when Yahoo was so awesome because it had humans building their index.

So is this what Dave is up to?

A Picaso in the making?
Well that is probably taking things a bit far, but boy are we excited with the progress this weekend on the mural. On Friday the scaffolding arrived and I helped Jodie put it up. Jodie has been telling us all week once the scaffolding goes up we'll see things really come together. Wow, what an understatement!

Look at all the work completed in the last 48 hours.

Friday evening shortly after the scaffolding was erected.

The sponge effect really pulls together the whole mural

The boxes were my favorite part, now the shutters and this old pipe are my favorite

Pumpkin Pancakes aka tomorrow's non-Atkins breakfast

2 1/3 cups Bisquick baking mix
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 1/4 cups milk
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/3 cup mashed pumpkin
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Beat all ingredients with whisk or hand beater until well blended. Pour batter by scant 1/4 cupfuls onto hot, lightly greased griddle or skillet. Cook until tops are bubbly and edges are dry. Turn and cook pumpkin pancakes until golden brown.

Makes about 15 to 18 pumpkin pancakes

Mural Update
Slowly, but surely the mural is taking shape. Jodi is really taking her time on this, I believe this is her first major project so she's trying to make a showcase out of it. We're thrilled to have her talent involved in this.

Tomorrow the scaffolding arrives and Jodi says she's going to be spending a lot of time here once it arrives. We'll see a lot more progress then. Of course as the old cliche goes a picture is worth a thousand words, so I've uploaded some photos highlighting the progress to date.

We still have the top half of the main wall to complete and no work has started on the wall next to the stairs yet.

Just look at the details, I love this old guy below selling his potatos.

Out of all the details so far in the mural the boxes below are my favorite. They look so real and this old lady I can just hear her saying, "Don't you ta touch a my flowers!"

I wasn't sure at first if I was going to like the colors used below for the dress, but now that the details are filled in I am thrilled. Look at the hair too.

That is it for tonight. Tomorrow the scaffolding shows up and we'll being moving forward in full gear, I'll snap pictures each night as it progresses and update my weblog with the snapshots.
