[New York Times: International News]   Secretary of State Colin L. Powell made a quick unannounced visit to Iraq, intending to highlight the progress under way on the first anniversary of the start of the war.

Instead, his major public appearance in the Iraqi capital was dominated by the walkout by 30 Iraqi and other journalists for Arabic news media, in protest over the deaths of two of their colleagues who were shot Thursday. The two, who worked for the Arabiya satellite network, were killed in a shooting episode with American forces.

Mr. Powell said that he regretted the incident and that "it will be looked into" but said he was "confident that it wasn't anything that was deliberate."

They saw the comment by Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz as narrow-minded and promoting a stereotype.
