I FEEL LIKE I'M HOME In my youth I spent hours lined up to watch Star Wars. I think I waited in line to see the Empire Strikes Back roughly 18 times! Hell, I even have an authentic light saber (built outta metal, with a neon core and sound effects), and a replica of Darth Vader's helmet! The latter has been in storage for awhile, but I think it is time to bring it out for a year, or a lifetime, again!
Friends and I have been exploring the game for a few days now. Unlike other games, you have complete control over the way your character looks, and acts. I'm sure that the designer of the dance scenes is gay though. I went to a bar last night (you have to heal your fatigue by participating at a bar by listening to entertainers, or dancing), and I swear that my Avatar, R'hune Crestingstar, really wanted to be in a Ballet! He has the gayest fucking moves around!
The skill system in SWG is very deep. There are so many professions that you could just go insane trying to figure out which ones you want to participate in. Unlike other MMORPG's, you can surrender points you put into these professions so that you can try out a different kind of character. So far my character is planning on being a Battle Medic (I prefer being a support class in these games rather than being in the middle of the brawl.) He also is good at surveying (for minerals), and engineering (for building weapons, and parts for droids.)
The graphics are simply amazing. I do have a very high end system though. There are places where the grass looks like wheat, and gently blows in the wind (good place to survey for flora/wheat, which I can then use to make food.) The whole world is loaded simultaneously negating the need for zones to be loaded.
The creature AI is unlike anything I've seen before. You can be running through the world and notice enemies on your radar, only to realize that they are sleeping in the grass. When you get too close they get up and run around to wake up their pals. Depending on their hostility they may run away, run up and try and scare you off, or attack you. Yesterday we ran into this group of lizard things (really fucking big lizard things, I might add), that just came up to us and stomped their feet. In reality, we should've been shitting ourselves and running away. Andrew and I were chatting on teamspeak and said "Wow, thats so cool!"
More later... gotta go build some blasters ;)
