Independence Day
Hot Damn! I can not believe I finally did it! I have spent the last 8 hours coding my home page from scratch -- without using any kind of generator. I just flat out wrote the code, trial and error, tweaking it until I got it right. Kind of a self-taught crash course in HTML and CSS. It would have been much easier if I actually had some kind of reference book with an appendix -- instead I just kept referring back to a handful of on-line guides and tutorials.
I already know that this design is a temporary one. But I think it's relatively attractive and it will do for now -- and did I mention I did it all by myself? And I think the code is rather clean too.
It is 3:00 am my time. I am not quite sleepy enough to turn in. And the a/c is still broken so just sitting here I am perspiring.
It was a nice 4th. Bittersweet, because in all likelihood it will be our last one in this wonderful community. We hosted TLG's fellow preschoolers this morning as we gathered to get ready to march in our town's parade. After the parade they came back to our house for popsicles and cold drinks. We were going to go to a friend's party this afternoon but TLG fell asleep and TBG wasn't feeling that well. [I think we are dehydrated from all this heat. And all he drinks is beer and coffee.] So we just hung around the house with the windows open, the light off, trying not to move that much. Then tonight we walked to the middle school for our town's fire works show. TBG and I love fireworks and we were delighted to find that TLG did too. There is something about a live forework display that is just awesome. There is an immediacy to the experience that even someone used to state-of-the art special effects in movies and games can appreciate. It is so loud you can feel it in your chest, and sometimes so bright I had to squint. It is just so right there in front of you. It is a simple and sweet pleasure like an ice cold can of coke or cotton candy at the circus.
Happy Independence Day everyone!
