New York City tourist

I am planning on making a visit to New York City in the second week of June for 5 days. I plan on doing some of the usual New York tourist stuff -a Broadway play, the Guggenheim, a Yankee's game, probably Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island.

Anything else that anyone can recommend? (I am a jazz fan so am now investigating jazz clubs).

Any other recommendations, general or specific words of wisdom from other tourists or locals?

Mark your calendars!

The Distillery Jazz Festival is coming up May 20 to 29 (no line up announcements yet) and the Doors Open Toronto weekend is coinciding this year again with the end of the festival - May 28 and 29(again no announcement yet of buildings featured).

Last year we decided to make these annual events in the household.

If you are interested, and are or are going to be in the Toronto area, I suggest you mark your calendars and try to attend either or both events.

Jay McShann at the Montreal Bistro

I went out to dinner and an evening of music last night at the Montreal Bistro, a well known Toronto jazz club. Playing was Jay McShann the legendary jazz piano player with his standard Toronto backup Jim and Rosemary Galloway.

What a treat Jay McShann is -- not a young guy (born 1916) but still a strong player with a strong voice and a long and colourful jazz history.

I debated whether I would include this here for a while but here goes -- I have been listening to this Molly Johnson CD a lot -- it is a few years old but if any jazz fans out there get a chance to pick it up I suggest you do it(she is a Toronto singer).

I recently acquired a German tube receiver and am looking for help indentifying it. Anybody out there with information?
