Identify German Tube Receiver
(Update January 25,2005 -- my neighbour has an identical receiver -- but in totally working condition and inside a piece of 60's history) -- see pictures here.
I recently acquired this German made tube receiver(actually I pulled it from an ugly console that was destined for the scrap heap). I am trying to identify what it is (and whether it is worth trying to fix). It is a SW/FM/AM receiver with "Stereo, "HI-FI" on the glass face plate in stylized 3d font. It has "Made in Western Germany" at the lower right of the faceplate and "J 664 USA/R 9-206 Lag.-Nr. 31-266 DAU PD 207 Gi 5,66 Din Telef. UKW 41-1972" on the upper right of the face plate.
It has a curious tube on the left of the face plate with a portal to view labelled "Magic Fan" that I assume is some sort of tuning indicator. On the lower left are Volume, Balance, Bass and Treble knobs. On the lower right are separate tuning knobs labelled FM and AM.
It has an array of mechanical "radio button" selection switches at the lower middle of the faceplate and a number of "DIN" style connectors at the back for speaker output, turntable connection and tape player/recorder connection. I am guessing from the model number information that was made for the US market(probably North American -- I am in Canada) around 1972 -- and perhaps by Telefunken?
As far as I can tell there are(or should be) 7 tubes in the receiver:
EM84,ECC83,ELL80?(the markings are somewhat obscure).EAF801,ECH81,ECC85, one unknown -- a socket with no tube.
I have a series of digital photos of these various elements -- I apologize for the quality of the pictures -- it is testimony to my lack of ability with the camera ( and perhaps the camera itself - a really old Sony Mavica). I have included a gallery of pictures here that may help in the identification(click on thumbnails to see the full picture):
