Wi-Fi around Chicago.. The Daley Center between Clark and Dearborn is now (as of September 2003) a wi-fi hot zone. I have not personally connected there, but the word is that the signal around Daley Plaza and Block 37 is strong. Click here for more information. If you are outside of downtown Chicago, the UPS stores (formerly Mailbox Etc.) will have wi-fi access (for a fee) in mid-September as will many McDonalds (for a fee). UPS story

Top Four Technology Tools for Lawyers (or anyone who has to travel around to work): 1. Intellifax. Send and receive faxes from your laptop or desktop. No more being chained to the fax machine. http://www.intellifax.com/ 2. Verizon’s “express network” is an expensive wireless internet service, but it’s an incredibly useful way to access email and the web from your laptop or tablet pc ($79/mo for unlimited use). Requires purchase of their modem (even if you have a wireless modem in your laptop). Beware: Customer service at Verizon does not understand this product, but once you get it going, it’s great. http://www.verizonwireless.com/express_network/exp_terms.html#EN1 3. Tablet PC- Can’t live without it! Great for drawing diagrams; taking client notes. Pen-based computer that recognizes handwriting and acts as a traditional laptop. Runs all of the Microsoft Office software. Add the docking station and it can double as a killer desktop pc. General review of Table PC http://danbricklin.com/log/tabletpc.htm Review of Compaq TC1000 Tablet PC that I use. http://www.tabletpclounge.com/Tablet_PC_reviews-compaq.htm 4. Pathagoras: Wonderful Microsoft Word utility that makes it easy to save frequently used paragraphs and to organize form documents. Easier to use than Hotdocs, imho. I use it for wills, trusts, everything. 9:58:43 AM |
