Experiment

A few weeks ago the blackout in the Northeastern U.S. and southeastern Canada sparked a discussion on the Writing On Your Palm mailing list about what we would do to keep our electronics alive should we lose power.

Modern PDAs are power hungry. A battery charge lasts barely a day under "normal" use, and some of us are hardly normal users. Add to that cell phones, laptops, mp3 players, digital cameras. The need for power to keep our digitalia alive is daunting.

For me, the most important devices are my PDA and my cell phone, and the PDA is the more important of the two (that would probably change if I was caught away from my family, and there's certainly a good chance that could happen).

One important difference between my PDA and my cell phone is that I have a backup plan for working without the power grid for my PDA, but not for the cell phone. Within the next couple of weeks, I'll be testing that plan, and reporting the results on this weblog. Stay tuned!
