I have been uploading a heap of old photos to my Flickr page lately. Lots of old 1024x768 desktop wallpapers from the first couple of years of CoffeeWaffle, a couple of Terragen renders that turned out ok, and this old favourite from the days when I was using Ilford film in a 35mm SLR...

New Years Campout

Just like this time last year, I got together with friends Mark, Pamela, and Devon to camp out next to the Motueka River over the New Years break.

This is the view looking upriver from our camping spot.

The kayaks all lined up ready for action on new years morning.

Probably my favourite thing about camping... the campfire.

As you may have guessed, I now have my new camera in hand. The Canon 400D digital SLR is living up to my expectations. I'm loving the 10 megapixels (the 300D was only 6.3 megapixels), but I'm gonna need some bigger memory cards. A gigabyte doesn't go far at 10+ megabyte per picture.

I have been over to Golden Bay this weekend to attend an engagement party. I was hoping to get in some kite buggying too, but the wind stayed away. I stopped at PuPu Springs on the way home this afternoon and took over an hour to walk around the 15 minute track.

The Welcome Swallow

I went to Rabbit Island this afternoon to meet up with friends Mark and Pamela, and hopfully do some kite buggying. The wind did not eventuate however, so we amused ourselves throwing boomerangs, collecting shellfish (just had cockles and chips for tea) and some last minute bird photography.

This handsome little bird was swooping around the bridge at the entrance to Rabbit Island. I had to do a search when I got home to identify but I think it is a Welcome Swallow. Nice name.

This Pied Shag was nearby, drying his wings, while another was diving for fish.

Waiting outside the Hira Store for my fish and chips to be cooked, just 5 minutes from home. The Xtracycle is loaded with a weeks worth of groceries which I have just hauled the 15km from the supermarket in town.

I had to resort to three layers of polypropylene, goretex outer layer, two pairs of socks, two pair of golves and a wooly hat under my helmet, for the ride to work this morning. It's worth it for views like these.

The Limo got its first decent test ride today on the 50km round trip to work and back. I'm still loving it. Can't pull wheelies but I don't care. I was never any good at wheelies anyway; at least now I have an excuse. ;-D
