CoffeeWaffle

Since I've owned my xtracycle many people, upon seeing it for the first time, ask the same old questions about it. Is that a skateboard on the back? Can you carry passengers? Is it strong? Why would you want to haul loads on a bike? Did I make it myself? What's the point? Anyone who knows me well and my passion for kite buggying usually gets around to saying something like, "Its pretty cool and everything but you won't be able to carry your kite buggy and kites on it". Well for all those doubters.... 5 words.
Oh. Ye. Of. Little. Faith.

For the record the load consists of 1 kite buggy, 3 kites, 1 backstrap, and tools. Nothing loaded above the deck so the weight is all low, and no need to tow anythng.

Cars are for sissys.

**Update**
I rode to the Wakapuaka Sand Flats and spent 2 or 3 hours buggying in a gusty northwester. It only took about 20 minutes (its usually a 8 minute drive). The best thing was being able to ride my bike right out onto the flats where motor vehicles aren't allowed. My friend Sam met me there too. You can just see his kite (a PL Vortex) in the back ground of the photo below.

Here I'm all unpacked and ready to go with my 5.5m PL Pepper.

Packed up and ready to head home before the rain get here.

"The Belief that man is outfitted with an immortal soul, differing altogether from the engines which operate the lower animals, is ridiculously unjust to them. The difference between the smartest dog and the stupidest man... is really very small, and the difference between the decentest dog and the worst man is all in favor of the dog."

A while back I was musing about refinishing the snapdeck on my Xtracycle. I put a few design ideas out there and decided I liked the lizard design. best. I got as far as getting a 60cm sticker of the design printed. A while after I first posted the design I got an email from John asking where he could get a lizard for his snapdeck, which he was in the process of refinishing. I sent him the graphic I had made and he got it printed that day. Today he sent me a shot of his finished lizard snapdeck. Pretty cool huh? I a little more motivated to finish mine now!

I was forced to drive to work yesterday. Bleh. The vans clock was still an hour behind due to daylight savings. That's how long it's been since I've used it. I had to drive due to my bike having a severely buckled back wheel (not sure how that happened). Its all fixed now so today I am really looking forward to my ride to work. I missed it yesterday and sat at my desk yawning all day as a result. The ride gives me a chance to really wake up in the morning and I arrive at work pumped and ready to go. Without it my body was a little put out.

There is currently about a 30knot SE wind out there. I can see the pines on the hill swaying in the 40knot gusts. The willows across the river are groaning and creaking. I'll be riding into it. I hope I make it to work before the weekend.

I can now add didgeridos to the list of things I can transport by Xtracycle.

You may be wondering why I needed to take my two didgeridos on my commute to work this morning. Well, I had an engagement to play this afternoon, after work. My Mum, my older Sister, and my neice all help run a Pippins troop (think mini Girl Guides). They have been learning about a different country each week, and this week was - you guessed it - Australia. So along with singing Australian songs, and hearing Australian stories, today the heard an Australian didgerido. A most attentive and appreciative audience they were too.

Derek, over at Bike Rubbish has some very nice bikes in his garage. This Ghost Rider/Xtracycle conversion is the latest, and has got to be the coolest. Here it is still missing a chain and cable but you get the idea. Check out the original bike before it was streched here.
