Jon created a very useful bookmarklet for viewing Technorati's info about any URL. You should try it.

I noticed something strange today. Dave pointed at a blog post by Mark Pilgrim from Scripting News. He did that, using a redirect page which basicly only gives the URL and tells the reader to copy and paste it nto the adress bar. It wasn't a direct link. Why? Well, it was (and still is) the only way to get Scripting readers to visit Mark Pilgrim's site. Direct links won't work.

Pilgrim's blog has a referer-based block on Scripting News readers: whenever Dave links to him, readers get sent back to Scripting.com. It seems like Pilgrim doesn't want readers of Scripting News to visit his site.

I'm wondering what's behind this. Why doesn't Pilgrim let Dave link to his blog? What's wrong with that? And why doesn't he just send a message to Dave, explaining his reasons and asking "please don't"? This behaviour looks a little childish to me..

Anyway, I've helped Dave by creating a redirect page that uses javascript. The referer won't be scripting.com, and users won't have to copy-paste the URL into the adress bar. But it can be expected that it will only be a matter of time untill Pilgrim starts blocking that referer too..
