The candidates certified for the USCF's special election are: Randy Bauer (IA), David Huff (CA), Mikhail Korenman (KS), Wayne Praeder (PA), Elizabeth Shaughnessy (CA), and Sam Sloan (NY).
Unlike the previous election, when I could support only one of the seven candidates, I find myself willing to support more people than there are openings. I will support Elizabeth Shaughnessy, and will have to choose between Randy Bauer and Wayne Praeder. I would've supported either of them, if they had run last time. I simply do not know Huff or Korenman. Of course, Sloan is a faux chess journalist with no regard for the truth.
People used to vote for him just to be funny, but the USCF's financial problems are no laughing matter. Shaughnessy has dealt with these issues while serving on the Berkeley school board, as has Bauer, who is the budget director for the state of Iowa. This is the first time in many years that I have been impressed by the quality of the candidates.
