Irish race walker Jamie Costin is out of the Olympics after being injured in a car accident near Athens.

50K walker Costin was travelling in a car that was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry at Porto Helios about an hour's drive from Athens.

He suffered a broken bone in his back and a broken toe in the accident.

And in a further blow for the Irish team, medal hopeful Gillian O'Sullivan has pulled out of the Games after failing to shake off a knee injury.

"He has a compression fracture of his back but it's clear that it could have been an awful lot worse," said Costin's coach and Irish athletics spokesman Pierce O'Callaghan.

Best wishes for your recovery Jamie...
