Irish race walker Jamie Costin is out of the Olympics after being injured in a car accident near Athens.
50K walker Costin was travelling in a car that was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry at Porto Helios about an hour's drive from Athens.
He suffered a broken bone in his back and a broken toe in the accident.
And in a further blow for the Irish team, medal hopeful Gillian O'Sullivan has pulled out of the Games after failing to shake off a knee injury.
"He has a compression fracture of his back but it's clear that it could have been an awful lot worse," said Costin's coach and Irish athletics spokesman Pierce O'Callaghan.
