    Zicam

Zicam- Recent reports in the news have focused the public's attention on a potentially serious problem with two over-the-counter "remedies" for the common cold.  ZICAM®, manufactured by Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., and Cold-Eeze®, manufactured by the Quigley Corporation, are homeopathic nasal medications that are claimed to shorten the duration and minimize the symptoms associated with the common cold. Zicam may be applied to the nasal cavities either with a spray or swab and Cold-Eeze is a nasal spray.

Both of these medications contain the active ingredient Zinc Gluconate, the use of which in the nose spray has been linked to possible side effects including loss of the senses of taste and smell.  Loss of smell is known as anosmia and both conditions may be permanent.

Several lawsuits have been brought against the manufacturers of ZICAM and Cold-Eeze alleging that they knew or should have know about the potential dangers associated with the use of nasal medications containing zinc.  It has been documented by some medical researchers that the use of zinc and products containing zinc can result in nerve damage. It is alleged that the manufacturers of these products failed to provide sufficient warnings to the users of the products even though the side effects of using zinc compounds have been documented.

If you or someone you know has experienced loss of taste or Anosmia or any type of burning sensation in the nasal passageways, you should immediately consult with a doctor.  In addition, you may wish to consider speaking with an attorney knowledgeable in product liability claims and medical issues to determine if you might have the right to pursue a claim against the manufacturers of these products. For a free case evaluation from an experienced attorney, please click on the link below.

Vioxx is classified as a COX-2 inhibitor, a type of drug deemed to be safer for the gastrointestinal system than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Unfortunately, the cardiovascular safety of this drug family has come under enormous scrutiny of late. Studies have shown that individuals taking Vioxx have between a 17 and 24 percent increase in heart attack risk compared to individuals taking comparable pain relief drugs on the market.[1]

Vioxx is used extensively for the treatment of many types of pain. While most commonly used to treat arthritis-related pain in its various forms, there are a number of other uses for the drug:

      • Relief of pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis (arthritis from wear and tear on your bones and your joints)
      • Relief of pain and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis in adults (arthritis caused by a condition where your immune system attacks your joints)
      • Management of short-term pain
      • Treatment of menstrual pain (pain during women’s monthly periods)
      • Treatment of migraine headache attacks with or without aura.[2]

Vioxx has been linked to serious cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes.  If you or someone you love has been injured as a result of taking the drug Vioxx, you may be entitled to monetary compensation. For a free review of your claim, please fill our Vioxx Free Consultation form.  Upon submission, your free consultation form will be sent to the sponsored personal injury lawyer for evaluation
