What is this CoreAudio blog about?

For my hobby, I like to tackle programming projects that require me to learn a new framework, library or API. As I gain new insights into how something works, I typically jot the notes down in a simple text file journal that I keep inside the project directory.

It occurred to me recently that what I'm learning may be of some use to the programming community at large. As long as I'm writing the notes anyway, I may as well publish them. If no one ever reads them, I don't mind. If they do read them, I hope it's useful to them.

This particular blog is tracking my progress as I stumble my way blindly through the CoreAudio API (part of Apple's OS X and darwin operating systems). The exercise I'll use to learn the API is creating a QuickTime component that can encode/decode the FLAC lossless audio format. An eventual aim is to get iTunes to recognize the codec and allow folks to categorize, organize and play FLAC music through the iTunes Music Library.

Also, unless someone writes this component first, it will probably become part of the QTComponents SourceForge project (see it at http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/).
