Leukemia Status to Date

A normal range of white blood cells  is from 4800 to 10,800 white blood cells per microliter of blood (micro = one millionth). My blood counts have been as follows:

14,800 ---- May

14,900 ---- July

14,900 ---- August

19,800 ---- October

24,900 ---- December

Update

21,000 --- March (reduced)

18,800 --- April (reduced again) The Budwig Diet is working.

Leukemia Stages

I am currently at Stage 0 of the disease. There are 5 different stages labeled from stage zero to stage four.

Because medical people love to use language that leaves the unwashed masses in a state of total confusion, I have translated the techno-gook into plain English so that there will be no brain hernias.

Stage 0 – excessive white blood cells – no symptoms

Stage 1 – excessive white blood cells -  enlarged lymph nodes

Stage 2 – excessive white blood cells – enlarged spleen and/or liver

Stage 3 – stage 0, 1, or 2 plus anemia ( low red blood cells)

Stage 4 – stage 0, 1, or 2 plus low platelets.

Platelets help the blood to form clots.

Summary

A summary of my disease, as I understand it, is my body is producing some abnormal white blood cells that do not die when expected. These longer-lived cells accumulate in my body and eventually will cause a problem because of excessive numbers. If the counts get to the 100,000 range I could experience symptoms. I have to find a treatment that will destroy these excessive and abnormal cells.

Obviously, the success indicator of a treatment will be a reduction of the previous white blood cell count. A cure indicator will be a reduction back to the range considered to be normal. My plan is to have a blood count done every 2 months. I will be recording the duration of various treatments and correlating them with the results of blood counts. Most times there will be a two month lag between treatments and blood work.

In April I will be 65 years old. I am 6 ft. tall and weigh 240 pounds. I quit a 50 year smoking habit last August and gained a ton of weight. I have lost 6 pounds since beginning the Dr. Budwig diet which I will expand upon in a future post. My goal is to get to 190 and I hope to be there mid-summer. That would be nice because my chest would then move from my beltline up to where it should be. I work out on a home-gym every day and will begin daily walking when the weather clears a bit.
