Lymphatic System
The
function of the Lymphatic System is described as:
It is the job of the lymphatic system of
the body to help drain toxic substances from tissues ... The lymphatic
system ... functions as a central component of the immune system. It
consists of fluid
called lymph ... The lymph moves through lymph vessels called
lymphatics back into
the bloodstream. Lymph contains cell debris, nutrients, waste products
from the
cells, hormones, toxins and many other substances.
Here is a link to a good Introduction to the Lymphatic System.
While doing skin brushing today I was reflecting on
the lymphatic system and had a flash of insight that could not be verified by
googling on the terms itch + lymphatic + drainage. It seems that possibly my
theory on the cause of a minor itch is original.
The theory supplies an answer for a question that
has bothered me for a long time. The question is just why does one experience
the sensation we describe as a minor and fleeting itch. A brief scratch and the
itch will go away.
What Causes An Itch
I believe that when lymph drainage is impeded in a
particular part of the system then an itch sensation is set up on the skin near
that location. That itch will trigger an urge to scratch. The scratch serves as
a form of massage that clears the blockage and restores drainage.
There are many times I have to scratch my head when
I think about some of the thoughts that come out of my head.
