Minutes - Second meeting Paula, in her dynamic style, presented her plans for the Paula has some unique ideas about commercial entities (Dehoff) within the community that might fund this project. She has also identified some sources of discount storage units (20%-50%) and construction personnel. Jane and Avery has a particular interest in physical education. She will be pursuing funding for the primary playground equipment and additional adjunct physical education programs that might be appropriate for PCMS. Jane will obtain the specifications and budget amount for the proposed playground equipment. She is waiting to evaluate the responsiveness of the current vendor of the new equipment purchased for the elementary children. Val and the PCMS friends have obtained much of the background information concerning the landscape project. I hope that Val can continue to spearhead this project. My interest and concern lies in the development of math and science skills in our children. Subsequently, I am assuming responsibility for the Montessori math manipulatives and Library materials. I have discussed these needs with Mrs Oravec and Elizabeth Dieringer. My responsibility is to do additional research on funding for each of these initiatives. I will bring a prospect worksheet and at least 2 possible grantors to the Thusday, Dec. 9th meeting. If unable to attend I will send home the materials via cubby? mail. Hopefully, after the holidays we can redouble our efforts. Is a Jan. 6th or 13th meeting acceptable? 10:12:05 AM |

Just a reminder. The meeting is at 12:30 tomorrow in the school library. 10:23:51 PM |

The agenda for the 2nd meeting consists of discussing the seven needs that have been identified. We will discuss concept, expenses, and program for each of the items. These are the elements of a well written proposal. A new link is on the menu that points to the tutorial for writing grants. 10:07:37 PM |

Please provide input and corrections in the comments. I will update. Sharon Meeting #1 minutes 2 .Playground structures for Primary playground. Current equipment is cracked and damaged from use and weather. Jane (R) thinks it might be OK to use for the next few months. 3. Montessori Materials - math manipulatives. This might be a good candidate for matching funds and Timken was noted as a good candidate for this item. Timken FDN.is very interested in engineering subjects. Foundations interested in curriculum development would be great to approach, too. 4 Landscaping: front of building. Another candidate for foundations that match funds. The Friends of PCMS have tried to recruit local landscaping companies directly. 5. Library: books, furniture. It was mentioned that Hosner Carpet has replaced carpet in a school each year plus bought some books. My question here is does equipment mean computers, too? 6. Art Specialists. Is this a continuation or addition to the Ohio Art Council projects? Paula and Karyn are passionate on this subject (especially music). 7. Teacher Resource Area. More discussion needed here. Do we need input from the teachers? The staff should define what they would like in a resource area. It was noted that all Grant submissions have to be cleared through the oversight committee. A one-page summary would be sufficient for Jane (R) to take to the oversight committee. Next meeting Nov. 4th, 12:30 10:04:57 PM |

Karyn's reply to my question concerning her Mockingbird submission and Peter's and the Mockingbird response. Sharon
mockingbird only replies to people who are invited to submit a full proposal. they are a completely volunteer organization, so i understand the time contraints of going over everyone's letters. i was just thrilled that they sent me a note saying that they had recieved my email! so, i know they got it and we didn't make the cut. also, they don't except snail mail. peter was in korea doing a montessori educators' conference and was having computer troubles so he didn't get my email until it was too late. i'd like to save him for reading final drafts--don't want to wear out my welcome, or so to speak...
we can reapply in january, if we can come up with a good music project to fund...

Arts in Education Model Development Karyn Russ sent this link along and suggested it might be used to fund our music and art consultant. The applicant must be a LEA (Local educational agency). This is probably a Dept. of Ed. designation and perhaps Jane or Karen know if PCMS is an LEA. Also,.... From the description of the grant it says that Applicants must describe an existing set of strategies for integrating the arts into the regular elementary and middle school curricula, which could then successfully be implemented, expanded, documented, evaluated, and disseminated. This means we have to have a current set of strategies to be implemented and describe how we would (use the grant $$) to expand and implement our (Arts) strategy. This is what would be covered in our grant request. This grant opportunity should be included as a candidate to help with the need Karyn suggested. Great!! 6:13:29 PM |
