If you have the time, a surprising post from Mark Cuban, owner of the
Dallas Mavericks among other things. He has an opinion about this
weekend's inaugural events; Cancel them.
Not realistic, but a strong message all the same that has merit. Blog Maverick

Aaahh, Salon...you bring us food for thought by way of the St. Petersburg Times. They have an interesting money trail to follow. "Veiled sect hails Bush, Martinez," reports Lucy Morgan, the paper's Tallahassee bureau chief.

...thought on podcast #2
I think I
may have missed the mark on the solitude issue in a way. The first poem
was kinda iffy in the first place... I may be too close to the
subject in a few ways right now.
I finally got to see "The Station Agent"
last night with Angela and it really seems to nail the idea perfectly.
If you've seen it, the characters all have differing needs for
solitude, wander into isolation and keep being thrown together again
and again to show the importance of interaction and community, even
when those experiences have been difficult in the past. If you haven't
seen it, check it out...
It is a highly reccommended film.

This is a bit disturbing and I'm afraid to say, somewhat typical of the
inconsistancy of the rules and procedures that change from moment
to moment now a days. From Boing Boing a report on
Why is American Airlines gathering written dossiers on fliers' friends?.
Cory Doctorow:
Last week on a trip from London to the US, American Airlines demanded
that I write out a list of the names and addresses of all the friends I
would be staying with in the USA. They claimed that this was due to a
TSA regulation, but refused to state which regulation required them to
gather this information, nor what they would do with it once they'd
gathered it. I raised a stink, and was eventually told that I wouldn't
have to give them the requested dossier because I was a Platinum AAdvantage Card holder
(e.g., because I fly frequently with AA). I have written an open letter
to AA asking for details on this -- see the link below for the whole
text.

update: This reminded me of a story I wrote in 2002 about pre-TSA security. It can be read here.

Thanks to Taegan Goddard for passing on the following Reuters report...
Governor Kinky?.
Kinky Friedman (D), "the best-selling author, country singer and friend
of the stray dog, next week will officially toss his ten-gallon hat
into the ring for the 2006 Texas governor's race"...
There is hope after all...
