Is it adultery? Booze? The ol' wandering eye? No, the greatest reason that people in North America get divorced can be spelled with just three letters: NFL. And it's back this weekend.
The National Football League is the object of study and obsession by tens of millions of men across North America from now until the end of January. Guys who lead otherwise normal (read: offseason) lives lose all sense of equilibrium and reason while the season's underway. What were once productive Sunday afternoons become six hour wastelands. Spouses, children, employment and socializing lose all meaning and relevance. If you offered to hook up most North American guys to a heart-pump and an iron lung for those six hours, the majority would sign up. And the reason for this is simple: Football, NFL style, is simply The Greatest Game In The World.
