Small and medium businesses (SMBs) have similar broad needs when it comes to IT and growth, but the specifics are not so close; considering them one group may be a mistake.  Security, disaster recovery, and bandwidth are the top IT concerns facing SMBs, but they aren't the ones hindering business growth. According to "2006-2007 U.S. SMB Applications & Solutions Market Overview and Assessment," a new AMI-Partners report for the business applications and solutions sector, the causes of slow growth are different for small businesses and medium ones, creating opportunities for software and service providers to fill important gaps and differentiate themselves.

Economists and health insurance industry experts say future health care costs will skyrocket despite a trend of slowing cost growth since 2002. Costs for employers shot up more than 15 percent in 2002, but increases then steadily dropped to less than 8 percent last year, according to Illinois-based Hewitt Associates, a human resources consulting company.
