The three young men were born in the backwoods of Québec, Malawi and B.C., but bred on Montréal streets buzzing with the noise of every nation on earth. For their groundbreaking Tibervision CD / DVD, they strip back down to basics, returning to their roots in the bush. The great outdoors become their studio and their songs come alive with all-natural samples of wood splitting, sand slipping, paddles slapping and water dripping. Their cameras and microphones are trained on the trackless woods around them, but their ears have been trained on Grime and Hip Hop, Afrobeat and Baile Funk, American Spirituals and Malian Blues. Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club - Schedule of Events Everyone, including newcomers, are welcome to any of the events listed below. There will be a beginners' clinic and a beginners' course at every event. Come dressed for the weather in old clothes. There is no need to let us know you are coming (unless you are bringing a group of 8 or more*) - Just pick an event and turn up! The cost for non club members is: $7 per adult or $7 per couple/family sharing a map (higher at forest events). Wednesday evening events are a great place for beginners to learn the sport and for regulars to practice their skills. Short/easy, medium and long courses (loops) are available. Register, take a beginners' clinic and start any time between 6:30 and 7:30 pm (earlier in September). Weekend forest events include beginner, advanced beginner or intermediate, as well as technically advanced courses (loops). A compass, SPORTident timing card and whistle are required for forest events only; all can be rented at the event site. The times for the forest events are not standardised. John Janzen Nature Centre (Edmonton) Information & Activities Whitemud Drive and Fox Drive (7000-143 St.) (shared parking lot with Fort Edmonton Park) There is plenty to see and do at John Janzen Nature Centre. Check out the exhibit room or our live wildlife exhibits. Enjoy self-guided nature walks or register in one of our programs, specially designed for fun. Exhibit room - Seasonal Changes Mammals, bugs and birds are unique in their ability to survive our climate. Our current exhibit, Seasonal Changes, explains how local wildlife adapts to seasonal changes. The exhibit features a larger-than-life model of a ground squirrel's tunnel and a bat cave and includes self-guiding activities. For families with children aged three to 11. Live Wildlife Exhibits Small wildlife such as salamanders, garter snakes, frogs and toads are on display in the exhibit room. Honeybee Hive Watch bees, busy at work, at our indoor/outdoor working beehive exhibit. Prairie Pond Examine pond life up close and personal with our newly redesigned pond. This water oasis also attracts ducks, blackbirds and frogs in the spring and summer. Backyard Compost Education Centre This outdoor exhibit demonstrates how you can incorporate composting into your waste disposal routine. Learn the composting process and sample composting units designed for large and small yards. Nature Walks Enjoy a self-guided hike on four kilometres of interpretive nature trails through some of the most interesting river valley scenery in Edmonton. Waskahegan Trail Association Sunday Hikes The Waskahegan Trail Association leads Sunday hikes several times each month. When there is sufficient snow, the hikes become cross country ski outings. An annual general meeting and two film nights are held each year. Volunteer work parties go out from May till October to maintain the trail. Members receive information on these activities through our newsletter. Announcements are also made in the local media. All events are open to anyone interested in attending. Those participating in scheduled hikes are asked to sign a waiver of liability. Although nonmembers may use the trail, the Association would feel safer if hikers became members, and shared its concerns about the development, care, and future of the trail. June Is Edmonton's Bike Month and Bikeology Festival What is Bikeology? It is the science of how bike culture and velo-love can transform our lives and make our community stronger. This festival is the result of some cycling folks noticing that the cycling community in Edmonton is quite segregated by type of cycling and wishing to offer a venue whereby all cyclists, indeed, everyone, can celebrate bicycles. For instance, the bike stores, the roadies, the fixies, the commuters, the couriers, the racers, the mountain bikers, the tourers all hang with their own kind. Sometimes the only common element is the bicycle even if, in each case, it’s use is somewhat different. It is also a recognition that Edmonton can provide similar cycling and bikey events that are available to other Canadians nationally, regardless of the climate, or, maybe, in spite of the climate.
